DFP Cleaning FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: How long does a professional DPF cleaning take?
A: We provide next-day turnaround on most DPF cleanings. If you drop off a filter at our North Vancouver Way shop, it is typically cleaned, tested, and ready for pickup by the next afternoon.
Q: How often should I have my DPF cleaned?
A: While specific intervals depend on your duty cycle, a general rule of thumb is to have a professional cleaning every 100,000 miles or annually for most trucks. Regular maintenance prevents soot from hardening into ash, which can permanently damage the filter.
Q: Can you clean a DPF that has already triggered "Limp Mode"?
A: Yes. While a truck in limp mode is severely restricted, our professional thermal baking process can often restore it to functional levels. We use a complete inspection protocol to verify if the filter is restorable or if internal structural damage, like a cracked substrate, requires a replacement.
Q: What if my filter is too damaged to be cleaned?
A: Unlike smaller shops, we maintain a $1 million inventory of aftertreatment parts right here in Portland. This includes DPFs, DOCs, gaskets, clamps, and sensors. If your filter is beyond repair, generally we can provide an immediate replacement so you don’t lose time waiting on a shipment.
Q: Do you offer a pickup and delivery service in the Portland area?
A: Yes. We offer tiered pickup and delivery based on your distance from our shop at 9861 North Vancouver Way. It is completely free within a 5-mile radius, a $25 flat fee for 5–15 miles, and $50/hour for anything beyond 15 miles.
Q: What is the difference between your "Bake and Blow" and a standard blowout?
A: Many shops use a simple blowout cabinet that only removes loose surface soot. We use state-of-the-art Filtertherm machines to perform a controlled thermal bake that oxidizes deep-seated soot into ash, followed by a professional pneumatic cleaning. This is the only way to truly restore a filter’s capacity.
Q: Do I have to remove the filter myself?
A: No. We are a one-stop shop. We offer full Remove & Replace (R&R) services on medium and heavy-duty trucks. You can bring the entire truck to our Portland facility, and we will handle the mechanical work and the cleaning.
You certainly can remove the filter if you want to and have the tools/skills. Then drop the filter off at our shop and pick it up the next business day afternoon.
Q: Will I get proof that the filter is actually clean?
A: Every filter we service includes a detailed FILTERtrak report. This provides you with before and after pictures, flow data, and weight measurements, giving you documented proof of the cleaning and a record for your maintenance files.
Q: Why do you paint and wrap the filters?
A: The details matter to us. We are the only shop in the Portland/Vancouver area that paints and wraps every filter we clean. This ensures the filter is protected from the elements and arrives back at your shop in professional, like-new condition.
Q: Is professional cleaning worth the cost?
A: Absolutely. A professional DPF cleaning is $300. If regular maintenance best practices are neglected, you may have to clean the filter more often or even replace the entire filter, which can cost $3-6,000 or more, plus downtime.
Professional Cleaning is the most cost-effective way to avoid massive repair bills and downtime.
