“They were super helpful for getting me an opacity test needed for my registration. They charged me half of what another shop was trying to charge. They seemed super nice and honest and genuinely helped me a ton!”

A: To avoid a failed test (and a re-test fee), please check these 4 items before testing/we arrive:
A: Almost all diesel and alternative fuel vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 14,000 lbs operating in California must participate. This includes commercial trucks, buses, and motorhomes (RVs). If you operate in California, even if registered out of state, you likely need a certificate.
A: The hold is usually triggered because a CARB hasn’t received a test for your vehicle.
Once these steps are done, the hold typically lifts within 24-48 hours.
A: Yes! Our Mobile Service is designed to save you downtime. We come to your location in the Greater Sacramento area. This is ideal for fleets with lots of vehicles or vehicles that are currently non-operational/unregistered and cannot legally drive to a shop.
**Travel charges based on time/distance apply.
A: The actual testing process is fast—typically 15 to 20 minutes per truck. For mobile visits, we just need a safe, flat area to park near the vehicle. Be sure your vehicle is also warmed up.
A: Standard smog checks are for vehicles under 14,000 lbs (like pickups and cars). The Clean Truck Check (HD I/M) is specifically for heavy-duty diesel vehicles. We are credentialed specifically for the heavy-duty program.
A: Yes! Many RV owners are surprised to learn they fall under these new regulations. If your diesel pusher is over 14,000 lbs GVWR, we can get you certified and back on the road for your trip.
A: If you fail, the DMV hold will remain. We will provide a report/explanation about why it failed (usually a Check Engine Light, visible smoke, or high particulate matter). You will need to repair the issue and schedule a re-test.
Be sure your vehicle is registered with CARB. Also, make sure you’ve logged in to your CTC-VIS account, and the $31.18 annual compliance fee is paid.
If your truck is blowing smoke, do not schedule a test yet. It will fail. Have a mechanic fix the issue first to save yourself time & the cost of a failed test.
A cold engine can trigger a false failure. Please run the vehicle for at least 15 minutes before we arrive to clear moisture and get the catalyst hot.
We need to photograph your VIN & Engine Family Name (ECL label). Are these labels readable? (Commonly found on the valve cover or door jamb).
